Collected Stories of Sholem Aleichem

Sholem Aleichem
A collection of some of the most important stories from the Jewish literature genius, Sholem Aleichem. These stories capture the subtleties of Jewish life and thought but are wrapped in enigamtic tales of humor tinged with sadness.

Sholem Aleichem is one of the foremost names in Jewish literature and theater. Best known for his "Fiddle on the Roof" stories, Aleichem, born Sholem Naumovich Rabinovich, was a master of prose and storytelling. His collected stories present readers a glimpse into the life and mind of the "Jewish Mark Twain" since, while his work is known and revered in parts of Easter Europe and in the Yiddish literary tradition, it often eludes the book lists of Western readers. Despite this, Aleichem is not just a critical figure in the Jewish-Yiddish literary cannon but an essential writer whose work ignores genre boundaries and, like the literature of other great writers, obliterates literary categories as frequently as it creates them.
