"Israel must make every effort..."
“Israel must make every effort to limit civilian casualties.”
I keep seeing this either as a quote in the NY Times Op-Ed or a statement from the US State Dept or any other number of organizations or countries chiming in on the current "war" in Gaza.
It was the same thing during the Second Lebanon War, and it was often used during Israeli responses to terrorism during the Second Intifada.
This is the single stupidest thing that any one can say or write in regards to the conflict. The phrasing shows how much Israel has to adhere to a different moral and complete double standard.
It is almost as stupid as “End the cycle of violence” or “Both sides should cease all violent activity”. Or my (least) favorite “the disproportionate use of force must stop”.
What do these people think?
That Israel just sits around waiting for a chance to murder women and children?
That Israel is systematically perpetrating “genocide” against the innocent Palestinian people?
That Israel is a war mongering society?
Sadly they probably do think this. That is the fundamental problem with the international community (media, leftists, etc). They have no idea what they are talking about.
Here are some basic facts:
- Israel provides the population of the Gaza strip with running water and electricity.
- Israel allows for humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza strip.
- Israel has provided weapons to the Palestinian security forces (which in turn have been used against Israel).
As far as I know, Israel is the only country in the history of the world to supply its enemy with food, water, electricity and weapons. I do know that Israel is the only country that is being forced by the world to give land back to its enemy that was won in a war that it didn’t start.
What does the international community really want Israel to do?
Continue allowing Hamas to shoot missiles at its population?
Take down the security fences and open the door to Israel allowing anyone including terrorists to enter?
To disband the Israeli Defense Forces and have UN troops here?
To allow all Palestinians to come and live in Israel and therefore dissolve Israel’s Jewish identity once and for all?
I am truly sad that Palestinian civilians have been killed. I am also sad that Israeli civilians are being killed, not even indiscriminately, but actually as the true aim of Hamas.
I am sad that Israeli civilians have lived in a perpetual state of fear since the founding of the Israeli state 60 years ago. Fear not just of an attack, but a real existential fear.
Enough is enough. Israel should not have to abide by some ridiculous internationally imposed imbalanced moral code of conduct.
I hope Israel finally takes a stand and makes the sacrifice to rid the world of Hamas, then Hezbollah, and then any other fanatical group that calls for the destruction of Israel.
